This is a tour we have offered for many years, and we understand the appeal. If you are staying in Marathon, the convenience makes it an easy choice.
However, we want to be completely upfront.
This area has become heavily overcrowded due to the number of outfitters launching from Sombrero Beach. The mangrove trails are now congested, with frequent delays where groups have to stop and wait to pass through narrow sections. Instead of a peaceful paddle, it often feels busy and rushed.
The impact on wildlife has been significant. Where this area once had abundant marine life, sightings are now very limited. You will most likely only see jellyfish, with far fewer fish, crabs, and birds than in less pressured environments.
You should also expect:
Paid parking requirements near Sombrero Beach
Limited parking availability, especially during peak times
Crowded launch conditions
Heavy kayak traffic throughout the route
Additional boat traffic in surrounding waters
We still offer this tour for those who specifically want a Marathon based option, and we know some guests prefer it for convenience. But if your goal is to experience wildlife, quiet surroundings, and a true mangrove ecosystem, we strongly recommend choosing a different tour.
